Hyacinthus Vase Pink
23 x 10 cm
Hyacinthus Vase is a hand-made stoneware vessel by Mark Mann. Inspired by the tragic love story of Hyacinthus and Apollo in Greek mythology and the flowers brought to life by by the God Apollo to mourn the death of his beloved after he is killed in a fit of jealousy by the vengeful west wind Zephyrus. This beautiful vase depicting Hyacinthus is finished in a subtle pink glaze.
Using the seductive qualities of ceramics, bronze and textiles, Mark Mann’s work is a commentary on society, its injustices and its pleasures. The works explore historical themes with a contemporary relevance. Mark’s current collection is a celebration of the domestic interiors created by homosexual men in a time when homosexuality was illegal. The work often uses coded imagery to convey queer meaning.
