Ganymede Lustre Vase

Mark Mann

Glazed Ceramic

44 x 28 x 18 cm

Ganymede Lustre Vase is a hand-made ceramic vessel by Mark Mann, glazed in creamy white with metallic gold details. Inspired by the love story of Ganymede and Zeus in Greek mythology. After falling in love with the beautiful mortal Ganymede, the God Zeus transforms him into an eagle to serve as his cup bearer in Olympus. In Marks’ incredible Ganymede Lustre Vase the face of Zeus is forever joined with the eagle representing his love.

Using the seductive qualities of ceramics, bronze and textiles, Mark Mann’s work is a commentary on society, its injustices and its pleasures. The works explore historical themes with contemporary relevance. Marks current collection is a celebration of the domestic interiors created by homosexual men in a time when homosexuality was illegal. The work often uses coded imagery to convey queer meaning.

Norwich based artist Mark Mann is the designer behind In-Decent Interiors. Mark Mann creates statement ceramics, prints, wall coverings and upholstery fabrics which fuse art, craftsmanship and luxury to create interiors which tell stories. Mark was the winner of Gallery in the Lanes’ Emerging Artist award as part of Norwich Castle Museum and Gallery’s Inheritance exhibition.
