Hunstanton II is a pastel drawing by Malca Schotten. This piece depicts a beautiful orange clay cliffs of Hunstanton, Norfolk. Malca’s organic drawings are fluid and beautifully capture their subject matter. The expressive mark-making is immersive, it gives life and movement to the drawings.
Malca Schotten has been influence by her family background and her parents interest in the arts; her father was a book designer and her mother a potter. Malca studied art at Brighton and lived in London until the 1990s when she moved to Norwich. Her work is inspired and driven by her love of drawing. Malca is passionate about responding to key issues and channelling it into her artwork. Malca’s drawings explore the North Norfolk coastline at different times of day and across the seasons. When speaking about her work she describes it as “carefully crafted yet raw and expressive, emerging from a primal response to the subject, using my visual and emotional memory to develop the work”.
