This Copper and Turquoise Raku Bottle by Jennie Durant has been created using the glazed raku firing technique. This technique involves removing the pot from the kiln while it is still glowing red hot. It is then placed in to a metal can containing a material that is easily to catch fire, such as sawdust. The lid is then placed on top of the can. This starves the pot of oxygen and creates the velvety charcoal pigment that is seen on the neck and the linear patterns of the pot. Once the piece is removed from the sawdust, it is finished with a vibrant copper and turquoise glaze.
