The curlew has an unmistakable silhouette. Carol lives on the doorstep of the vast rolling uplands of the Northumberland National Park where the curlew still abounds. Carol is only too aware that curlews are steadily decreasing in number in the grassy uplands and loughs and along the coast. Her hope is that the series of prints she is making will encourage people to look more carefully at (and therefore value) this fabulous, slightly other-worldly bird that has become a symbol of Northumberland.
Carol has experimented with combining monotype printing with the collagraph plate to make this print. The print process is quite involved with several layers of colour being printed first before the collagraph plate is over printed to pull the whole image together.
