EVE MAHONY

Eve Mahony lives and works in Happisburgh on the Norfolk coast.

She creates her leaf dishes by pressing collected leaves in to the clay and applying an oxide glaze to keep them looking beautifully natural. The leaves have an amazing delicacy as their edges are tapered leaving them with a natural, papery finish. Eve uses leaves from her own garden, including Burdock, Sycamore and Blackcurrant leaves.

Along with her leaves, Eve creates pleasing ceramic vases which unite her small leaves with other observations made of nature including different wildlife. Her final pieces are organic and inviting, they give the viewer the impression of delicacy yet they hold a durability unrecognised unless handled. They are tactile artworks, the pleasure of running one’s finger across the imprinted veins of the leaves unites the beholder with nature. The clay itself is left with a raw finish which communicates the nature of the art works beautifully. This allows the handler to feel every mark and movement created by the artist while being as true to its original form. Eve’s pieces present an intimate expression of nature at its most humble. As individual pieces they sit confidently, however when united with one another they create a charming collection.
