An Exhibition of Paintings by Robert Tremain

Wednesday 18 October until Monday 6 November.

Riverside Art & Glass is proud to announce Robert Tremain’s solo show this October. Culminating from a series of travels made by Robert this exhibition represents a personal landmark as his first public exhibition. Robert Tremain was originally educated in Northern Cyprus, where he was an apprentice to resident artist Roger Anderson, before returning to the city of his birth to study at the Norwich School of Art and Design in 2008. Since then Robert has exhibited in Hastings and Holt and his work can be found in private collections as far and wide as in Switzerland, France, Turkey, London and North Norfolk.

Within his exhibition Robert wishes to share his explorations of subject matter, showcasing his stylistic influences of Van Gogh, Picasso, Klimt, Hokusai, Rothko, Wolfgang Paalen and Hockney as part of his journey into becoming a practising artist and establishing his first artist studio in Norwich. At the centre-piece of Robert’s exhibition will be four magnificent compelling portraits of male Orangutans, that embody nature at its most helpless, yet strong.

Robert’s powerful images encapsulates the magisterial nature of these fantastic endangered beasts:

“I’ve never considered myself a political painter but I really wanted to capture the power, beauty, human likeness and their vulnerability, as these are all of the things that draw me in and fascinate me about them”.

Other artworks on display will include two framed canvases of Robert’s abstract interpretation of villages around the Pyrenees Orientales in the South of France, a representation of the rippling water and choppy sky of the Norfolk landscape at Brograve Mill, the abstract naïve ‘flowers in vase’, which is a study in texture, colour, contrasts and graphic simplicity, as well as a pheasant:

“In truth there are lots of birds that I would like to paint but I just thought I’d start with a pheasant, and I wanted to paint it in this mosaic style!”

We invite you to “Look to Like” with Robert in this charismatic exhibition, and fall in love with the naïve simplicity that underpins Robert’s work. Wild, chaotic, yet composed and detailed Robert paints with a distinctive style that harnesses energy, direction, movement, texture, colour and scale – the driving force behind his paintings.
